Climber to 4 m. Tubers 15–20 by 0.5–1.5 cm, one per growing season, often with withering tuber of previous season, narrowly cylindric, vertically oriented. Indumentum present as fine aculeolate projections on inflorescence axes, sometimes also on floral bracts and dorsal surfaces of tepals. Stems 2.5–4 mm in diam., twining to the left, annual, unarmed, terete. Leaves simple, alternate, blades ovate to broadly ovate, 7–9- veined, chartaceous, on lower stems base usually auriculate and clearly lobed, on upper stems base cordate with entire margins, apex acuminate; petioles 1.5–12 cm long; cataphylls 6.1–9 by 1.5–2.2 mm, narrowly ovate; bulbils present or not, more frequent on male plants, 1(–2) per axil, 3–10 by 3–8 mm, ovoid or cylindric to clavate, epidermis tuberculate; lateral nodal organs absent but petiole base broad and flattened. Inflorescences pendent, tepals inserted on a discoid torus, free, erect; male inflorescences simple or compound, compound inflorescences 1–2 per axil, simple/partial inflorescences 1– 2(–3) per axil, spicate to racemose with cymules of 2–3 sessile to short-pedicellate flowers, peduncles 12–43 mm long, axes 1.8–15 cm long; female inflorescences spicate, 1–2 per axil. Male flowers 1.2–2 mm in diam. at anthesis, outer tepals 0.7–1 by 0.5–0.7 mm, narrowly obovate, inner tepals 0.8–1.1 by 0.5–0.7 mm, ovate, stamens 6. Capsules 16–24 by 15–18.5 mm. Seeds 4–5 by 4–4.5 mm, ovoid-lenticular, wing 10.5–13 by 7–8 mm, extending from seed base and apex, narrowly obovate to narrowly ovate.
