Climber to 5 m. Rhizome ca 0.8–15 by 1.5–9 cm, branched, spreading, shallowly buried, periderm hard, but lacking rigid, spine-like roots. Indumentum absent. Stems 1–3 mm in diam., twining to the left, annual, unarmed, terete. Leaves simple, alternate, blades ovate to broadly ovate, 5–7-veined, secondary venation prominent, especially on lower surface; chartaceous to subcoriaceous, margins entire, base cordate, apex acuminate; petioles 0.6–6.5 cm long; bulbils occasionally present in leaf axils where stem touches the soil, 20– 26 by 7–10 mm in diam., globose to clavate; cataphylls and lateral nodal spines absent. Inflorescences pendent, tepals inserted on cup-shaped torus, fused for about 1/2 of their length, apices recurved; male inflorescences simple or compound, compound inflorescences 1–2(–3) per axil, simple/partial inflorescences 1–3 per axil, spicate with a (sub)sessile cymular cluster of (1–)2–3 flowers at each node, peduncles 1.5–35 mm long, axes 2–19.5 cm long, sometimes negatively geotropic; female inflorescences spicate, 1(–2) per axil, simple. Male flowers (0.6–)1.2–3.9 mm in diam. at anthesis, outer tepals 1.4–1.8 by 0.6–1 mm, narrowly elliptic-oblong, inner tepals 1.2–1.7 by 0.61–1mm, oblong to elliptic-oblong, stamens 6. Capsules 12–22.by 16–21 mm. Seeds 3.5–4 by 4–4.5 mm, lenticular-ovoid, wings 12.5–14 by 11–12 mm, extending all around seed margin, often translucent.
