Climber to 10 m. Tubers (according to Burkill 1951) “1 or perhaps 2, descending into the soil but not very deeply”. Indumentum absent. Stem bases probably perennial, woody, sometimes spiny, upper stems 1.5–3.5 mm in diam., spines lax to unarmed, terete. Leaves simple, usually alternate to subopposite, sometimes opposite, blades elliptic to ovate or elliptic-ovate, coriaceous, 3-veined, base obtuse to rounded, apex acuminate; petioles (0.7 –)1.2–2.7 cm long; cataphylls 1.2–4.5 by 1.5–6 mm, narrowly ovate to ovate; bulbils and lateral nodal organs absent. Inflorescences spicate, tepals inserted on a discoid torus, erect, free, fleshy in texture with inner whorl thicker than outer; male inflorescences compound, 1–2 per axil, partial inflorescences (1–)2–4 per axil, all negatively geotropic, peduncles 2– 4.5 mm long, axes 1.5–8 cm long; female inflorescences simple, 1–2 per axil. Male flowers with outer tepals 1.1–1.3 by 0.8–1 mm, ovate to ovate-oblong, inner tepals 1.1–1.5 by 0.6–0.9 mm, obovate, stamens 6. Capsules 18–24 by 35–42 mm. Seeds 3.5–4 by 3.5–4.5 mm, ovoidlenticular, wings 18–20 by 17–19 mm, extending all around seed margin.
