Climber to 15 m. Tubers one per growing season, often with withering tuber of previous season, narrowly cylindric, deeply vertically buried. Indumentum absent. Stems 2.5–6 mm in diam., twining to the right, annual, toward base not seen, unarmed on upper stem, smooth and terete, drying a uniform grey or brown. Leaves simple, usually opposite, sometimes alternate to subopposite especially towards stem base, blades ovate to broadly ovate, thinly chartaceous to chartaceous with cystoliths visible in upper surface (at least in dried material), (3–)5–7-veined, margins entire, base obtuse to rounded, or subcordate to cordate, apex acuminate; petioles (1.5–)3.3–10.5 cm long; cataphylls 0.4–0.5 by 0.3–0.4 mm, ovate, apices 0.1–0.15 mm long, acuminate; bulbils 2–4 by 4–6 cm, ovoid to rounded; lateral nodal organs absent. Inflorescences spicate, pendent, tepals free, inserted on a discoid torus, fleshy, with inner whorl thicker than outer; male inflorescences simple or compound, compound inflorescences 1–2 per axil, simple/partial inflorescences (1–)2–7 per axil, peduncles 1–2.5 mm long, axes 0.5–1.8 cm long, weakly to strongly flexuous; female inflorescences simple, 1 per axil, to 55 cm long. Male flowers with outer tepals 1–1.6 by 0.7–1.3 mm, ovate to ovate-oblong, inner tepals 0.7–1.4 by 0.6–0.8 mm, obovate, stamens 6. Capsules 18–28 by 34–45 mm. Seeds 4.5–5.5 by 4–5 mm, ovoid-lenticular, wings 18.5–22 by 14 –16 mm, extending all around seed margin.
